When you are thinking about creating an epic vacation with your family, planning is KEY. If you lay down the foundation in advance…
-your children are invested in each stop along the way
-you can truly enjoy the trip because all the details have already been figured out
-you will have no regrets because you know you planned the most perfect trip possible!
The steps of planning, for us, lasted a year and a half. We spent 12 days traveling by camper van to 5 national parks, 1 state park, and 2 national monuments, before staying 2.5 days in Las Vegas. In the end, it was everything we hoped it would be! Two weeks after the trip, we are still basking in the glow of this epic journey.
If you have the smallest spark of curiosity or a burning desire for an epic trip of your own, here are the steps we took. I made a blog post for each step of the planning stage so you can narrow in on what is most important for your trip and family. Keep in mind that our trip, while perfect for us, may not be perfect for you. This plan I am laying out is the foundation of any journey and how I applied it.
1. Finding Your Place (dream big and narrow down)
2. Traveling Logistics (plane, cars, where to sleep)
3. Research Each Epic Spot (what to see and do)
4. The Money (budget and save)
5. A Kids Gotta Eat (menu and grocery stops)
6. It’s in the Bag (what to pack)
7. Finalize Route and Activities (every little detail)
8. Enjoy the Ride!
